Disaster Assessment Basics

DSIMS100A

Disaster Assessment Basics is an instructor-led, basic level course. The course encompasses the tasks and responsibilities of the Disaster Assessment activity on a disaster relief operation. The course includes a section on local disaster incidents, which may be customized by the instructor for a local disaster program.

The Disaster Assessment Basics course is not a replacement for the Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment (DSIMS200B) course; it is a complementary course developed for a different audience. This new course is designed for local community volunteers, primarily Disaster Action Team (DAT) members.

The Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment course is the required course for all Disaster Assessment DSHR members, and is recommended for any volunteer who serves in a Disaster Assessment leadership role at the chapter even if that person does not deploy beyond the chapter.

The purpose of this course is to provide a general overview of the tasks performed by Red Cross Disaster Assessment workers in support of a disaster relief operation and a local incident such as a single or multifamily fire.

Restoring Family Links Caseworker Training (International Services)

IS-RFL-401A

The Restoring Family Links course and training enables paid and volunteer chapter caseworkers to more effectively deliver international Restoring Family Links casework services to clients who have been separated from family members in other countries by armed conflict, disasters or complex humanitarian emergencies. The coursework and instructor facilitated discussions are supported by videos and interactive activities.

Participants will become familiar with the use of American Red Cross forms including the Tracing Inquiry form, the Holocaust/WWII Tracing Inquiry form, the Red Cross message form, and with the service delivery direction and guidance, Restoring Family Links: Direction and Guidance for Chapter Caseworkers.
